In nature, Metal is found in the depth of the earth, dug up from the ore. Through a variety of steps, the pure metal is then separated. It is thus no wonder that in Chinese Medicine this element represents the themes of separation, purification, and rarity.
In the body, the organs that separate us from the environment three Metal organs: the skin, lungs, and large intestine. These organs separate what goes into and what is released from the body: the gas exchange in the lung, nutrient intake and waste disposal in the gut, sensory signal through the skin and sweat release for temperature regulation and detoxification.
On an emotional level,Metal is represented by the need for self-definition and exchange with others. Thus grieving, mourning and sadness, the emotions generated when one is separated from someone or something significant, are Metal emotions.
On an intellectual level, the ability to separate things or data into categories describes analytical skills, which is a trademark of Metal types. Other important Metal characteristics are clarity and communication. Metal type personalities tend to be orderly and neat and cannot stand chaos. They are clear about their boundaries are often meticulous at keeping to rules and law. They are sensitive people who like to be with others but need their solitude.
