"By integrating acupuncture, yoga, herbal medicine, nutrition, and gentle guidance toward better self care, my aim is to empower my patients to awaken their innate healing potential." ~ Setareh Moafi, L.Ac., QME
Acupuncture is an ancient medical modality that dates back as far as 4,000 years. It involves the treatment of specific points along meridians in order to rebalance the Qi, or energy, and blood flow through the body and in the internal organs.
Setareh Moafi, L.Ac. offers two of the most gentle and unique forms of this healing art:
1) Classical Chinese Acupuncture: a powerful treatment performed through gentle insertion of thin needles
2) Japanese Meridian Therapy: a painless non-insertion form of acupuncture performed through gentle contact on the skin's surface
Both styles treat a wide array of illnesses from pain and colds to autoimmune and gynecological disorders. The use of these treatments is tailored to each individual's needs and will leave you to feel strong, calm, and balanced.
Yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning union. Developed in India over 5,000 years ago, yoga is a practice that encompasses many elements, one of which is the conditioning of the physical body. Hatha Yoga, the yoga of effort, is a system of physical postures developed to heal the body by releasing tension, building strength and creating a stronger mind-body connection. Each physical posture, or asana, has specific benefits that calm and balance the mind and body.
Setareh blends Yin Yoga, a series of long held poses designed to nourish the body's connective tissue and open the meridians with Yang Yoga, a flow based series that focuses on the major articulations and muscles of the body to invigorate circulation and increase strength and endurance.
It is a misconception that one must be flexible or strong in order to do yoga. Practicing yoga will increase flexibility and strength.
Yin & Yang are the two opposing and yet complementary forces that comprise all things in our natural world. In yoga, the word hatha encompasses this same paradox. The Sanskrit word ha means "sun" and tha means "moon." Yang is often symbolized by the sun, and Yin the moon.
Yang is represented by heat, activity, fluid, change and masculine qualities.
Yin is represented by cold, receptivity, quiet, solid, steady and feminine qualities.
In Western terms, Yang can be used to describe aerobic activity, muscle tissue, and the sympathetic nervous system that drives our "fight or flight" instinct. Yin can describe meditation and contemplation, the connective tissue of the body, and the parasympathetic nervous system that helps us 'rest and digest.'
Yin & Yang are a juxtaposition of being and doing, stillness and movement that are in a constant state of change, trying to maintain a state of balance.
Five Element Theory is based on the classical texts of Chinese Medicine. The principle of Five Elements can be applied to any aspect of life from seasons to the rise and fall of an empire, ecological life cyles, and different personality types.
The Five Elements are connected into two sequences--the Shen and Ko, or Nourishing and Controlling Cycles. In these cycles, one element transforms into the next and tempers one element over the other. Just as imbalances are possible at any point in the cycle, there exists an inherent potential for a state of balance.

This full day immersion will integrate Yin-Yang Yoga, Meditation, Mindfulness, and the principles of Classical Chinese Medicine. Through a focused practice, you will cultivate greater strength, clarity, and ease with which to move back into your daily life. All levels welcome.

Earth is about transformation, and supporting endless new creative experiments to sustain life. In the body, earth organs transform the solid material of food into clear energy.
On the emotional strata, nourishment takes the form of care, which is the care that a mother gives her child so that he or she can grow and thrive as well as the care we give our home, garden, and animals.
As the earth itself is round, so the emotions in this element are circular: you fulfill someones need, and in return you get something back. This circle of giving and receiving sustains life and love.
On an intellectual level, caretaking manifests as organizational skills. This entails not only giving enough of what each person needs, but also making sure there is enough for everybody. This organizes individuals in such a way that they form a group, which enables them to do more together than the individuals are capable of doing on their own.
Earth type personalities can cook, multitask and are very good at bringing people together and organizing events and projects. They are very caring and will always have food in the house, as well as a good word and a hug to offer everyone.
